OK...so I know this breed is more like a VELCRO dog...but....Do these little guys get "posessive" of food, toys, people? Are they a "one person dog"?Taz is SO bad with histreats that he will snap at you if you get "near" one!!(We've even thrown away a treat in front of him - just to show him it is NOT acceptable.)ANY suggestions???(He sure lives up to his name!!!)

Yes, Rat Terriers do tend to be 'one person dogs' ... which is why it is commonly recommended that socialization begins at an early age. And since they are 'feists', that can factor into the possessive behaviors.

Bette,  you'll have to let us know if  any of  the ideas in that article helped with Taz.   Hope they do.  He's such a cutie.

Thanks Peg!  AND Joan!

Yes, I have been doing some of the techniques just to show Taz who is the leader of the pack.  He seems to be better when I take away something from him.  Not all the time, but he is not half as bad as he WAS!!

I am hoping he will get more relaxed and I can put my hand around/close his mouth when he has "something".

Just an update....

Well, been doing what the article suggested.

Taz is getting - better.  Doesn't seem to "remember" every now and then.  But, for the MOST part, he is NOT as aggressive!  TG!!  Now he seems to "understand" and when he misbehaves - he "looks" guilty and has a lot of remorse.  It is funny!  He will bow down to you, look at you side ways and then kiss, kiss, and kiss.  Like he is saying "SORRY" I forgot.  It's the TERROR in me!  Will be happy when he gets over THIS stage!!

AWESOME! Keep up the good work with Taz, Bette ... sooner or later he'll finally understand that YOU are in control, not him!
