I found these myths really interesting, some I alreay knew were myths, but some I didn't.
Feeding your dog seems to be a very controversial topic these days (just look at the food and nutrition forum at Dogster)---YIKES....I've never seen so many hackles raised in my life!
I always refuse to get pulled into that dog food fight as it's a loosing battle. Choosing what to feed your dog should be about researching the dog foods/diets you want to feed, comparing foods/diets, talking with your vet (even though some people say vets have no animal nutrition training I say bull to that), and go with what you truly feel is the right food for your dog.
I have had many dogs throughout the years, I have fed several different kinds of kibble. All my dogs did well and lived long healthy lives...ie: my German Shepherd/Collie lived to the wonderful old age of 15 years, 8 months. She was fed Iams Lamb and Rice her entire adult life.
Jake has much different nutritional needs than my dogs of the past, there's the allergy factor thrown into the mix. Jake is allergic to grains, and so we had to go to a single protein source food that did not contain grains. I can't believe the difference in him. But years ago I would not have been able to purchase this type of food. The internet is a wonderful research tool. Researching dog foods can get confusing at times. But for me it was very helpful in helping me determine what food I wanted to go with, if it was available to me in my immediate area and would Jake benefit from it.
Feeding your dog/dogs has gotten a bit more complicated with so many dog foods on the market plus you have the raw food diet, but in the end it's still your choice, you are working in the best interest of your dog/dogs, only you can make the decision you think will work.
